What is Cancer Support Community North Texas?
Cancer Support Community North Texas is a free, nonprofit organization, providing emotional and social support for people living with cancer, and their families and friends.  Formerly Gilda’s Club, it is named in memory of Gilda Radner, best known for her work on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, who succumbed to ovarian cancer in 1989.

Where is Cancer Support Community North Texas located?
Cancer Support Community North Texas now has two locations; one located at 2710 Oak Lawn. The Clubhouse is located on the East side of Oak Lawn, between Congress and Brown streets.  Our second location is in Allen, located in Professional Building 1 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen, just of I-75 and Exchange Parkway.

What happens at Cancer Support Community North Texas?
Men, women, children, friends and family come to Cancer Support Community North Texas to learn how to live with cancer through support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and fun, social events — all adding up to a "support community."

What does Cancer Support Community North Texas offer?

  • New Member Meetings for orientation sharing
  • Weekly Wellness groups for people living with cancer - facilitated by a licensed mental health professional
  • Family and Friends groups for family members and friends - facilitated by a licensed mental health professional
  • Family Focus, Team Convene
  • Presentations by experts in oncology, nutrition and health, exercise etc.
  • Workshops on cooking, meditation, yoga, reiki and much more!
  • Social activities enhancing community spirit, fun and friendship
  • Noogieland – a program of support for children, and Teen Talk for teenagers

Is it residential?
Cancer Support Community North Texas is not residential, but it has a home-like atmosphere.

Is there any charge for membership?
Everything at Cancer Support Community North Texas is absolutely free of charge.

Who can come to Cancer Support Community North Texas? 
Cancer Support Community North Texas is for men, women and children with all types of cancer, as well as their family members, friends and coworkers.

How can you join Cancer Support Community North Texas?  Do you have to be referred by a medical facility?

Is there pressure to be "positive"?
Absolutely not.  Cancer Support Community North Texas is based on the idea that every person’s way of living with cancer is respected.

Is Cancer Support Community North Texas supported by the medical community?
Cancer Support Community North Texas is supported by a distinguished Medical Resource Council comprised of oncologists, family physicians and many others from area hospitals and clinics.

What are Team Convene and Family Focus?
Team Convene and Family Focus are innovative and effective steps to take in learning how to live with cancer. Ideal at the time of diagnosis, they may also be scheduled at any time to strengthen support and enhance communication among family and friends.

How is Cancer Support Community North Texas funded?
Private individuals, corporations and foundations have provided enormous direct and in-kind support for the renovation, mortgage, furnishings and program costs.

Are there other Cancer Support Community locations?
Currently there are 50 other clubs open and more in formation nationally and internationally.
